Thanks to greater flexibility and traction, the CONTI® POLYFLAT PU flat belt allows the use of compact drives with much smaller pulley diameters compared to conventional steel cable drives. Drive pulleys with a diameter of 100 mm or less allow the use of economical geared motors.

The steel-reinforced belts made of polyurethane are extremely flexible, hard-wearing, and durable. They are virtually corrosion-free due to their galvanized steel, and their polyurethane coating ensures anti-slip traction and more efficient power transmission.

PU belt reinforced with steel cord, type F 30 XHP, 12 steel cords per belt, 7 strands per steel cord, 7 steel wires per strand. In total 588 steel wires (152 steel wires in Conventional steel cord).

The steel wires are galvanized on the surface and thus ensure a corrosion-resistant design.

The horizontal arrangement of the traction ropes gives the belt a flat shape, which is advantageous especially for lifting and winding applications with the possibility of minimizing the diameter of the pulleys.

In case of specific application requirements, it is possible to produce a belt with aramid tensile fibers. They are rather more prone to breakage and sensitive to moisture, but characterized by resistance to aggressive chemicals and are antimagnetic.

Storage system of tensile fibers

The uniform operation of the belt is ensured by the distribution of forces in the belt. This is achieved by the use of a special system of storage of tensile fibers.
The system is based on the alternating use of tensile fibers with left and right strand winding. This evens out unevenness and reduces the forces that would normally cause the belt to slide to one side. A belt with this tensile fiber storage system does not tend to twist or curl.

Service life

The service life of the steel cord-reinforced CONTI® POLYFLAT XPS and XPS II flat belts is three times as long as that of belts with conventional steel cords under the same operating conditions. If all the conditions specified in the CONTI® POLYFLAT catalog are met, a service life of several million cycles spread over 10 years can generally be expected. The traction test over the number of cycles also demonstrated the system’s wear resistance.

Conti®Polyflat: Versions

The ContiTech production program includes belts of various designs and prices due to the specific difficulty of producing belts with the necessary characteristics.
Two-stage production also offers the possibility of other grooving shapes. Three-stage production allows the application of another layer.
In the case of belt grooving, it concerns requirements for perfect running smoothness, or maximizing resistance to external influences by completely covering the tensile fibers.

Basic design: CONTI POLYFLAT Elevator belt.

The transverse grooving on the underside of the belt is due to the manufacturing process, which in this case consists of a single step. The lugs on the steel wheel lead tensile fibers with constant pretension and position.

The grooves extend to the tensile fibers. The underside of the belt is flat, smooth without grooves.

Belts in the basic version are produced with a standard thickness tolerance of ±0.2 mm. When using them for winding applications, it is necessary to take this factor into account, or to choose a belt in a design whose production process offers a reduction in tolerance.

The special design is based on the elevator belt patented by OTIS.

For smooth and quiet operation without small shocks or vibrations that can be caused by transverse grooves, the outer shape of the shaping wheel was modified during production to create a special combination of „V“ shaped grooves. These grooves are irregularly spaced and there is no run-up during operation. The movement is 100% smooth, like on a smooth surface. The underside of the belt is flat, smooth without grooves.

The technology enables production with a reduced thickness tolerance of ±0.05 mm. Thus, belts with „V“ grooves can also be used for winding applications. As standard, they are produced in the XHP design in widths of 30 and 60 mm.

We only supply V-groove belts for industrial applications. To be used in personal elevators, they are manufactured exclusively for the OTIS company, which holds the certification, without which the belts must not be used.

Closed design without grooves - smooth belt on both sides

High standard of execution thanks to the improvement of production technology. The tensile fibers are hidden from external influences in the polyurethane mixture. The belt ensures maximum quiet operation without shocks and vibrations.

In order for the underside of the belt to be groove-free, the production process was adjusted to two stages. In the first step, one side of the belt is shaped. Subsequently, on the second forming wheel, the second side is produced, when the pressed surface of the first side with tensile fibers is guided on a smooth roller. The result is a belt with a smooth surface without grooves.

The technology enables the production of belts with a reduced thickness tolerance of ±0.05 mm, and can therefore also be used for winding applications. As standard, they are produced in the XHP II version in widths up to 75 mm.

Properties

The properties of the CONTI® POLYFLAT PU flat belt open up many new areas of application, e.g. in lifting systems, car wash installations, forklifts, handling devices and scissor-lift tables.
The belt is selected on the basis of the circumferential force to be transmitted for the pulley size concerned.
